Legendary Dublin band Aslan were forced to cancel their 3Arena concert in Dublin this Saturday after lead singer Christy Dignam, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, fell ill.
In a video message, the other members of the band reassured fans that the concert would be held at a later date and that their number one priority was Christy’s health.
The 3Arena gig is the biggest gig of their careers to date, celebrating their 40th anniversary since their founding in 1982.
Christy was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder cancer, in 2013 and has been receiving treatment ever since.
Ticketmaster sent out an email today to tell fans that the show won’t take place on Saturday, but that they are planning a new date.
In a statement, Aslan said: “Things were going very well up until our 3Arena show and Christy did a great job.
“However, he has suffered a setback in his treatment, and we have now been instructed by his doctors that Christy should not perform this Saturday.
“Christy, Joe, Alan & Billy are devastated to have to share this news with you.
“We are working to find a new date at 3Arena, so keep your tickets, as they will be perfectly valid for the rescheduled date.
“As you all know, Christy’s health comes first and we must also respect his privacy at this time.
“Stay with us, Aslan.”
