THE next Assassin’s Creed game to be developed under the codename “Rift” is said to be set in Baghdad.
The game, which is rumored to be the next in the series, has not been officially announced by developer Ubisoft.
The next official game will have the placeholder name Assassin’s Creed Infinity and will be a large multiplayer game set in different historical periods.
It will move away from the narrative and single-player focus of most games in the series.
According to a report by BloombergRift is being developed to fill the gap in Ubisoft’s release schedule.
Supposedly it was originally created as an expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
However, the team decided to switch gears and develop it as a separate standalone game.
It will appear to be a smaller game than recent titles in the series and will focus on stealth gameplay.
There were rumors that Rift would be set in the country now known as Mexico during Aztec times.
However, this does not appear to be the case.
in one Reddit Thread, Bloomberg reporter who published the story about Rift, Jason Schreier, said it went against the information he was given.
Instead, he believes Rift will take place in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
He didn’t comment on what period of history it would be, but said it will feature the Valhalla character Basim, who lived in the 9th century.
Eurogamer shared similar information. It spoke to Valhalla producer José Araiza who confirmed:
“Yes, the answer is yes. I won’t tell you any more details. But yes, you will definitely see more of Basim.”
Schreier, who claims to have sources at Ubisoft, said he also has knowledge of two historical locations that will appear in Infinity.
Although he gave no details, he claims that none of the sites he knows of are based on Aztec history.
There’s no release window for Assassin’s Creed Infinity, but Ubisoft claims we’ll have more information in September.
Likewise, we don’t know when Rift will go on sale, although it will likely be late 2022 or early 2023.
However, with big games like God of War Ragnarok, Bayonetta 3 and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet arriving in time for the holidays, Ubisoft could choose to release its game later.
