Assault at Kerry funeral: Third man, 40, arrested in connection with assault that resulted in the death of Thomas Dooley

Gardaí investigating the fatal attack that led to the death of Thomas ‘Tommy’ Dooley, 43, in Tralee, Co. Kerry last week have arrested a man in his 40s.

r Dooley, who lived in Killarney but had previously lived in Cork for a period, died on Wednesday October 5 of complications from multiple stab wounds sustained in New Rath Cemetery while attending the funeral a mother of five from Killarney.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife Siobhan sustained injuries while desperately trying to protect her husband.

She received emergency medical treatment at University Hospital Kerry (UHK) before being discharged Thursday night.

Gardaí confirmed tonight that a third man has now been arrested in connection with the fatal attack.

“The man, aged over 40, is currently being held at Tralee Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984,” a Garda spokesman said.

“This is the third arrest in this investigation. The local investigative team was assisted by specialized investigators from the GNBCI (Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation).”

On Saturday October 8, the late Mr Dooley’s cousin, also known as Thomas Dooley, appeared in court with an address at a stopping point in Carrigrohane Road, Cork, charged with his murder.

Meanwhile, on Friday October 7, Mr Dooley’s brother Patrick Dooley, 35 – with an address in Arbutus Grove, Killarney – also appeared in court charged with the murder of his older brother.

Siobhan Dooley and members of her family attended a special vigil outside their Killarney home on Thursday night.

In a special tribute to father of seven, Tommy Dooley, balloons were released in his memory and prayers said at the Killarney estate.
