At least four dead in mass shooting in small Georgia town

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia county government official says at least four people have been killed in a mass shooting in a small community south of Atlanta.

A statement by Henry County officials said police are still investigating an “active shooter incident” that took place late Saturday morning in a neighborhood in Hampton, a town of about 8,500 people about 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of Atlanta, happened.

“I can confirm that four people have died,” county government spokeswoman Melissa Robinson told The Associated Press by phone. “At the moment, the suspect is still at large.”

Hampton, Georgia police were scheduled to give more details at a press conference Saturday afternoon.

Several local law enforcement agencies, as well as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, were helpful. GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said she had no information other than that GBI agents had been contacted for help.
