At least ten fire engines burn at a leisure center in Crawley

AT LEAST ten fire engines respond to a major fire at a leisure center.

Crews were called to Copthorne Road, Crawley at around 7.20am this morning.

The road is closed in both directions from Wyevale Garden Center to the Copthorne Hotel roundabout.

Ten fire engines were initially on site but an 8.55am update confirmed that the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) had 17 vehicles on duty, including five specialist vehicles.

The Argos:

A WSFRS spokesman said: “At 7.22am we were called to a fire at Acorn Health and Leisure in Copthorne Road, Crawley.

“So far we have crews from Crawley, Salfords, Reigate, Godsen, the turntable ladder platform from Horsham, two water carriers from Burgess Hill and Petworth, the control unit from Haywards Heath and a heavy duty pump from East Sussex Fire and Rescue.”
