Auckland stabbing: ‘Several people injured’ in mass random knife attack – World News

A knifeman has gone on a killing spree in Auckland, stabbing several people before being brought to the ground with a crutch by construction workers, witnesses said, allowing police to arrest him

Emergency services have rushed to what appears to be a random mass stabbing that has resulted in multiple injuries in Auckland.

A witness has said that a hooded man came out of Seaton Avenue on Auckland’s North Shore and began stabbing people.

She claimed the knifeman was stopped by construction workers who tripped him with a crutch and allowed police to arrest him.

Police caught the attacker and he is now in custody while they have confirmed there were injuries.

“Emergency services are present at an incident in Murrays Bay where a number of people are believed to have been injured,” a police spokeswoman said.

Police have closed areas to traffic and urged people to avoid the area.

A woman walking a dog said she saw the man wearing a hoodie as he first chased a 17-year-old girl who was screaming.

“We thought she was being silly, she was screeching,” she reported stuff.co.nz

“He stabbed two people, completely at random … it all happened very quickly.”

The woman reportedly said the knifeman was only about 20 meters away and was stopped with a crutch by construction workers.

Another witness said the attack took place at Murrays Bay and then at Mairangi Bay.

“People are screaming. Everything happens so fast. People were running and the cops were there at the same time with big guns and they have someone on the ground at that moment,” she reportedly said.

There were other reports from many police officers who showed up at the scene.

A local resident in Mairangi Bay claimed he saw “quite a lot of police officers” in the area.

He added: “I saw three or four passing here towards Murrays Bay and also an ambulance.”
