Authorities have shared the cause of death of student found dead in Las Vegas suitcase

Authorities have announced the cause of death of a schoolboy found dead in a Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas suitcase.

The body of an unidentified boy, believed to be around five years old, was found in a suitcase by a mushroom hunter last month in the middle of a wooded area in Washington County, Indiana.

The child, who was 121 cm tall, was described as clothed and clean when placed in the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” hard case.

Indiana State Police have now released a statement confirming the boy died from an electrolyte imbalance which an autopsy report said was believed to be caused by a stomach virus.

Authorities confirmed the student had no significant traumatic injuries and his blood toxicology was negative.

Police found no evidence the boy was alive at the time, and they are still unclear how long he had been put in the 73cm suitcase – or who left him there.

Despite tips from the public, the authorities could not identify the boy.

Cops described the student as a slim-built, short-haired black boy — although detectives believed the boy might be from another state or country.

The suitcase was also found about 80 feet from the nearest road, according to authorities.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls previously said, “Despite the numerous news articles and television reports and social media posts, we don’t have that answer (about his identity).

“And that’s our number one goal, to find out the child’s identity and name, and he deserves … to be heard.”

“Someone took care of him. He was in someone’s care and looked after their daily needs and for support. … Someone out there either knows and doesn’t say anything or just hasn’t had a chance to see this in the media yet and they don’t know they need to call anyone.”
