Baby boomers have a larger carbon footprint than other generations, according to a new study. Researchers found that the over-60s were responsible for 5% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2005, and by 2015 the proportion had risen to 33%. Boomers, born between 1946 and 1965, are the most likely age group to vacation abroad, live in big houses and spend big on cars, The Times said.
Loch Ness Monster ‘anti-Scottish’
Secondary school students in Scotland are to be taught that the Loch Ness Monster is anti-Scottish, the Daily Mail has claimed. Social studies students are taught the theory of how Nessie is a symbol of England’s supremacy in Scotland – emphasizing stereotypes and prejudice. The courses, designed to help 11- to 14-year-olds “recognize belief and bias”, have been called “brainwashing” by critics.
Pub launches “Ploughperson’s” luncheon
A pub in Devon has updated the ploughman’s lunch by offering a ‘ploughmen’s lunch’ in its place. Tors Pub uses the traditional ingredients associated with the traditional ploughman’s lunch – cheese, pickled onions, chutney and bread – but the name has been rendered gender-neutral. Dicky Harrison, the pub’s proprietor, told The Telegraph: “The menu item was just meant to be a bit ironic.”
