A young boy died in a road accident in Co Roscommon this morning.
Ardaí have confirmed that a jeep collided with the boy just after 9am.
“Gardaí and emergency services were at the scene of a fatal road accident near Ballinagare in Co.Roscommon this morning,” a Garda spokesman said.
“The collision occurred just after 9 a.m. when a jeep collided with an infant male.
“The infant was treated at the scene but was later pronounced dead. His body was then taken to the morgue at Galway University Hospital where an autopsy will take place. No other injuries were reported.”
The child is believed to have been less than two years old. The incident appears to be a tragic accident.
Gardaí have confirmed that a technical investigation of the crime scene by forensic collision investigators has been completed and a family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the boy’s family at the time.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and any road users with video footage, including dashcam footage, have been asked to make it available to investigators.
