The wedding party reportedly hired three barges for a boozy trip along the Droitwich Canal in Worcestershire, where one was sunk and collided with another
A boat of drunk friends managed to sink a 30ft canal boat and fall a second during a rowdy bachelorette party.
The chaotic wedding crew eventually forced the waterway to close and flooded a nearby street after the partying got underway in Worcestershire.
They set out from the marina on Friday afternoon, but their ship was submerged in the Droitwich Canal just hours later.
“Apparently these idiots hit several boats before this happened,” a local resident commented on social media.
“The police were informed but they declined to intervene. If she had, perhaps this could have been avoided. Luckily no one was killed.”
Other boat users were prevented from using the route for most of Saturday while rescuers tried to salvage the narrow boat.
Motorists also had to navigate nearby flooded streets after water levels rose due to the devastation.
Police, firefighters and rescue teams were called to both incidents after horrified onlookers dialed 999.
Amanda Huxtable, who made the call, said, “These guys weren’t capable of operating a 65-foot narrowboat.”
The groom’s entourage rented three barges from ABC Boat Hire for a weekend of pre-wedding debauchery on May 20, the reports Sun.
Shortly after takeoff, they managed to ram one of the barges with another passing sailor, but continued down the canal.
They then caused even more chaos when they went through a lock and got stuck.
But the bachelorette party has reportedly left its second boat and piled onto the third to continue its celebrations.
An investigation into the incident has been launched, sparking outrage from local residents, with some calling for stricter regulations.
“The same bachelorette party, divided between three boats, completely full of fuel. Another boat was abandoned after the collision and the third is missing,” one person said.
“They should be taken to court by Hire Co saying Hire Co should put their own house in order and not rent three boats for the same bachelor party.
“Sometimes common sense has to prevail over income.”
Another person commented: “No one would rent a limousine or light aircraft to someone who is organizing a bachelorette party.
“Why is it legal to drive a boat drunk? Aside from the risk of damaging infrastructure and other ships, there is a very real risk of injury or drowning.”
A third added: “We very often see rental boats pass our house with the person at the wheel enjoying a drink.
“We saw them drive into the bank with children at the tiller.”
The River Canal rescue team is retrieving the boat while Canal and Rivers Trust (CRT) plans to launch a full investigation.

A CRT spokesman said: “I think it was a bachelorette party and there were three boats.
“One was the one who got into trouble and that was because they didn’t operate the locks and the paddles properly, so their boat ended up getting stuck.
“The first time the Trust was informed of the situation was at 9:30pm last night but that was only in connection with some flooding on a nearby road.”
Investigators determined at 10.15pm that the chaos was the result of misuse of the locks and learned at 6.30am that the boat had sunk.
The spokesman added: “We are relieved there have been no injuries or worse.
“Two of our staff stayed on site to ensure it is safe and they are working with the Fire Service and River Canal Rescue.”
