Back row Gavin Coombes signs new contract in Munster until 2025

MUNSTER have confirmed their No.8 Gavin Coombes has been signed to the club until 2025.

The Skibbereen native has emerged as a key member of Johann van Graan’s side over the past two seasons and his rise as a strong porter has tempered the loss of CJ Stander to retirement.

He was under contract until the end of next season but the province have made efforts to secure his long-term future with an extension of that deal.

One of the first names on Munster’s squad, Coombes is a regular in Andy Farrell’s Ireland squad without breaking through on Matchday 23 of the Six Nations. Last summer he won two caps against Japan and the United States.

Coombes is expected to make his 50th appearance for Munster against Leinster on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ulster have rehired former Ireland center Jonny Bell as defensive coach.

Returning from stints with Gloucester, Glasgow Warriors and Worcester Warriors, Bell has agreed a three-year deal to replace Jared Payne, who is moving to Clermont.

Former All Black Craig Newby has extended his contract as Skills Coach for another two years. Back row Gavin Coombes signs new contract in Munster until 2025
