Dame Shirley Bassey’s bombastic vocals will help bring the upcoming BAFTAs to life as the star is set to perform one of her Bond-themed classics as part of the extravagant awards ceremony.

Event planners are hoping the 2022 event will be bigger and better than ever, having been forced to resort to a Zoom-based affair last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

And 85-year-old Dame Shirley will be something of a jewel in the crown of the evening events to be held at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday March 13 as she takes to the stage to belt out one of her legendary Bond songs to mark the 60th anniversary of the spy franchise.

Dame Shirley performed three of the past Bond themes – Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker – but show insiders are keeping their mouths shut about which of the songs the Welsh wonder will be singing that night.

A source told The Sun: “After being forced to live stream the ceremony last year, the film Baftas is making every effort to ensure this ceremony is the most star-studded ever.”

They went on to explain that a host of other big stars will be attending the night – with the likes of Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page, Harry Potter star Emma Watson, acting icon Sienna Miller and Star Wars star Daisy Edgar -Jones, who will all attend.

The source excitedly added, “Millie Bobby Brown is also flying over from the States to serve as presenter and will join Sebastian Stan and Daniel Kaluuya on stage. It will be an unforgettable night.”

It has already been announced that American singer and actress Lady Gaga will be flying to the UK to attend the event – both as a presenter and as a potential award winner.

The 35-year-old actress is nominated for Best Actress for her starring role as Patrizia Reggiani in the biographical drama House of Gucci.

Gaga will present the EE RIsigin Star Award – where Lashana Lynch, Millicent Simmonds, Harris Dickinson, Ariana DeBose or Kodi Smit-McPhee will win the award.

Gaga’s own performance in House of Gucci has divided some fans and critics – while the singer herself has been open about the strain she felt staying in the role of the murderous businesswoman throughout the film’s nine months of shooting.

She explained that she was throwing up because of “fear, fatigue, trauma, exhaustion, commitment and love” over her performance.

She also explained that the immersive performance affected her mental health, telling Variety last year, “I had a psychiatric nurse with me towards the end of filming.

“I kind of felt like I had to. I felt it was safer for me. That’s because I was always Patrizia.

“I’ve always spoken with my accent. And even when I talked about things that had nothing to do with the film, I didn’t pretend that Maurizio [her husband played by Adam Driver] Was waiting for me downstairs – I was still living my life. I just lived it like them.”
