Matt Lucas struggles with nerves in The Great Celebrity Bake Off tent.

Usually, the host, Matt, 48, has to switch sides after a contestant pulls out at the last minute.

Judge Paul Hollywood, 56, said: “He was upset that something was wrong and it was funny how it affected everyone. It got to him.

“He’s been in a friendly environment but he’s really nervous, bless him.”

More diplomatic, Prue Leith, 82, said: “He didn’t do bad.”

Meanwhile, Paul Hollywood revealed that he suffered a back injury after becoming obsessed with Lego.

The Bake Off judge built a replica of Titanic in the short time since filming in the tent, but it took days and he paid a heavy price.

The 56-year-old said: “My back is working. I went back to Cyprus about 20 years ago, and it just popped up recently because I’m actually sitting here building things like this – the Lego Titanic. Look how big it is. When I sit down here when I’m bored and the weather is bad, I start building the biggest Lego. It took me five days to make it and my back… You know when you sit down? I just got up and fell to the floor, it’s on my lower back… it’s exactly where I was years ago. ”

Regarding Lego in general, Paul added: “I like to make Lego when I’m stressed, so I’ve built a lot of Legos! So this Titanic, it’s big, four and a half feet long. Then I got a grand piano made of lego and it was really playable, the detail was amazing.

“But I love it, I get lost in it, I forget about everything else going on, it’s good for your brain. For me, I’ll probably do a puzzle, so you have to put something together, you know what I mean? Like maybe a little choux or a bit of pastry or a bit of breadcrumbs. Something you have to use your brain for.”
