Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to be released in Early Access after almost 3 years
Baldur’s gate Fans who toiled in Larian’s latest Early Access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is pleased to hear that the team has finally specified a release window for the game. The announcement that the game would officially release sometime in 2023 was made during a D&D livestream event last week.
When a game enters Early Access, it can often be difficult to say exactly when or if the game will finally release. Larian is a bit different in this regard, often opening its early access years before the game is even close to release, and then eventually reaching release status after much testing and many updates. So far, Baldur’s Gate 3 has come a long way since the first Early Access Steam release in October 2020. New classes, romances, content, bug fixes and more have been added to the game, and there is still some work to be done before the game is finally set to let go.
Back in February 2022, Larian told Eurogamer that they believed they were in their last year of development. Still, the team didn’t think they could launch the game in 2022:
“We still believe we have a year of development ahead of us, so it’s unlikely it will be this year . But we’re at the end, so now we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We have a pretty concrete plan.”
-Swen Vincke, Founder, Larian Studios, Eurogamer Interview
As the Larian team works out what remains to be done for the game’s final segment, Steam players have still been singing the praises of it Baldur’s Gate 3 throughout Early Access development. The game has a positive rating of 87.7% from nearly 50,000 reviews. After a long journey, it looks like a lot of people will be excited to jump into the game’s final release.
