Larian Studios has announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 is officially leaving Early Access and will be released in 2023.
Larian shared the news during D&D Direct 2022 in a developer diary that focused on “the journey so far.” While it offers some insight into the game, a Tiefling cosplay, and a doctor who may or may not be a doctor, the big news from the video was confirmation that Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t make it out of Early Access in 2022 and will instead to be officially released in 2023.
“By the Nine Hells, we’ve added a lot of great stuff already, and where that came from, there’s more,” Larian said. “So join us on our journey to Baldur’s Gate 3 in Early Access, or join us in 2023 when the game releases.”
In February, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke said 2022 would be the last full year of development, but left some leeway as to whether there was a chance it could make it before our calendars push back to 2023. Now there is no longer a chance of a release for 2022.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access was released in October 2020 and contained a wealth of content. In our Early Access review of Baldur’s Gate 3, we said that it “already has exciting turn-based combat and real storytelling greatness, but it might be worth waiting to enjoy it with new eyes.”
For more information, see why Baldur’s Gate 3 was so huge that Larian decided to triple the size instead of shrinking the game.
