Russian state television debates execution of British prisoners

A sickening debate ensued on Russian state television as panellists argued over how British combatants should be executed in a scene more reminiscent of the Middle Ages.

Even presenter Vladimir Solovyov, a mouthpiece for Vladimir Putin, who has his own show and regularly represents the current Russian regime, expressed shock at the direction of the discussion, saying it was “chaos” to discuss how people live in the 21st century. century should be executed.

British citizens Aiden Aslin (28) and Shaun Pinner (48) were arrested Ukraine after he traveled to fight against the Russian invasion.

She and Moroccan-born Brahim Saadoun were sentenced to death by a Russian-backed court in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

They are said to have admitted “training to carry out terrorist activities”.

The so-called trial reportedly lasted just three days, and the three are due to appeal – which they have a month to do.

In footage shared by Ria Novosti on social media on Wednesday, a translator can be heard asking Mr Aslin if he would “plead guilty” to an offence, to which he replied “yes”.

The video appeared to show the two Britons and the Moroccan in the dock of the Supreme Court of the pro-Russian territory.

Mr Pinner has been faced with tougher charges after he allegedly admitted to “seizing power by force”.

The Russian state television had discussed whether the British should be shot or hanged if they were sentenced to death, the reported Daily Star.

Solovyov, the moderator, asked what should now be done with the prisoners: “What can the British Empire answer if two of its subjects are shot or hanged?”

The sickening debate, shared on Twitter by journalist Julia Davis, convinced expert Yaakov Kedmi that Britain’s citizens should be hanged.

“Pirates are never shot, only hanged,” he said. “Military will be shot, criminals will be hanged.”

Solovyov disagreed: “But we’re not dealing with pirates and this isn’t the Middle Ages, we don’t quarter, we don’t care if others execute by hanging.”

The discussion then shifted to the history of executions in Russia, and Kedmi’s argument that there were public executions at the end of World War II was ridiculed, and Solovyov said times had moved on.

He said: “We’re in the middle of Europe in the 21st century and we’re having discussions about how to execute mercenaries, hang them, shoot them or quarter them? This is the new world.

“This is chaos, we’re sinking into chaos.”

Russia has been hit hard by Western sanctions since the invasion of Ukraine, and another expert, Malek Dudakov, suggested that instead of executing the prisoners, the British could be used as a medium of exchange to remove these economic barriers.

“Why can’t we use the current situation to offer them to Britain in exchange for Russia’s frozen stocks?” he said.

“We know their elites probably won’t respond; They have already shown an uncompromising attitude, but this will create a storm in British society.”
