A jury found Barbie Kardashian guilty on seven counts of threatening to kill her mother or causing serious harm to her after her trial in Limerick Circuit Court.
The jury of six women and six men today returned unanimous guilty verdicts on three of the seven counts and majority verdicts on the remaining four counts relating to the defendant’s mother.
Kardashian, 20, who has no fixed address, had pleaded not guilty to all seven counts of threatening to kill her mother, Maria Luque, on days in 2020 at Coovagh House, Limerick.
The jury unanimously found not guilty on four other charges, which also denied Kardashian threatened to kill or cause serious harm to Michael Mannix, a social worker, at Coovagh House, Limerick, between 2019 and 2020.
The jury retired last Friday and was sent home for the weekend. They delivered their verdicts this afternoon after deliberating the 11 charges for over four hours.
The four-day trial revealed that Kardashian had been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder and would say shocking things to attract attention and made the alleged threats while staying at Coovagh House. It is a safe unit for children between the ages of 11 and 17 with serious behavioral problems.
Her stay in the unit had been extended beyond her 18th birthday by a High Court order, it said.
The jury was told that the defendant was born a male but identified herself as a female, changed her maiden name and birth certificate, and received a certificate of gender recognition.
Judge Tom O’Donnell, who presided, ordered a psychiatric evaluation and parole report and placed Kardashian in custody to appear in Limerick District Court for sentencing in July.
