Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez could face a busy summer as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The Catalan giants have endured a mixed season and are currently second in La Liga, four games remaining, 15 points behind already crowned champions Real Madrid.

After a disastrous start to the season, it seemed unlikely that Barca would even qualify for the Champions League, but Xavi’s arrival in November has helped stabilize the ship. He has won 19 of his 34 competitive games.

However, Xavi had to strengthen his ranks in January with the signings of Ferran Torres and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. The pair have helped Barca move up the La Liga table and put them in a good position to finish in the top four.

However, Barcelona will expand their squad to be more competitive next season. With the club still facing some financial constraints, they may have to try and land some bargain players instead.

Someone who has been linked with a move to the Nou Camp is Brentford midfielder Sergi Canos. The 25-year-old impressed for the Bees in their first Premier League season.

He has scored two goals and two assists in 30 league games this season, having previously made nearly 200 appearances in the league. Canos was with Barcelona until he was 16 before joining Liverpool in 2013.

However, the Spaniard decided in 2015 to move to Brentford in search of first-team football. He settled into the team from the start and has become an important player for the Bees.

Last season, Canos contributed directly to 19 goals in 55 games as Brentford won promotion to the top flight. He has continued his excellent form this season and has been part of a Bees side that has caught the eye of many.

Now SPORT have claimed Barcelona are interested in signing Canos this summer. It’s believed it could cost around £8.5million to get him out of the west London club.

Canos’ contract expires in 2023 but Brentford reportedly have the option to extend his contract for another year. The source added that his salary wouldn’t be an issue despite Barca’s restrictions.
