BBC actor Reiss Jarvis has tragically died in a crash after a speeding driver ‘lost control’ and crashed into a tree, an inquest has heard.

The 21-year-old actor is said to have suffered multiple ‘irreversible’ injuries as a result of the collision in Delph, Oldham.

The young actor was in the front seat of the Mazda 3 as it turned into a country road and crashed into a tree.

The car then plunged down an embankment.

Reiss, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver, Karl Young, was taken to hospital, where he later died.

An interrogation at Rochdale Coroner Court revealed that Mr Young, 34, lost control of the vehicle while driving at ‘excessive speed’ along an unlit road around 8:40pm .

The couple were back in Oldham after visiting a fish shop in Marsden, West Yorkshire, on 10 November last year.

After the collision, Mr. Young – who was driving the car – was pulled out of the car and taken to the hospital.

Police Sergeant Neil Pennington of the GMP’s Serious Crash Investigations Unit said at the hearing that analysis of the vehicle’s airbag module showed the Mazda was traveling at 110mph, more than double the speed. 50mph limit.

He said that at the time the car hit the tree, it was traveling at 58 km/h.

“At the speed they’re driving at, if anything happens or there’s a loss of control, it’s going to be very difficult for them to regain control of that vehicle,” PS Pennington said.

Reiss’ cause of death was confirmed as ‘multiple road traffic trauma’, according to an autopsy performed by pathologist Abdul Ganjifrockwala.

Mr Pennington also said there was no evidence that any other vehicle was involved in the incident.

Reiss previously worked as a television actor.

The young star appeared in the 2017 crime film Muriled for Being Different, based on the Bacup murder of Sophie Lancaster.

Reiss’ heartbroken father Darryl told the court his son had auditioned for other roles, as well as trained barbers as a ‘backup’.

Mr Jarvis described his son as ‘the life and soul of the party’.
