BBC Centennial 50p Coin Announced

The Royal Mint has unveiled the BBC centenary 50p coin.

Although the King’s effigy has been released, the coins will feature an image of the late Queen as they were made before her death in September and will not be re-wrote to “minimize waste or unnecessary environmental impact”.

A Royal Mint official said the depiction of the Queen was expected to create “high demand” among collectors.

The coin honors the BBC’s global reach by displaying a broadcast mast emerging from the earth and inscribed “informative, educational, entertaining” – values ​​coined by Lord Reith when he founded the organization in 1922.
