BBC Mr Blobby’s original costume sells on eBay for £62,100

An original Mr Blobby suit made for the BBC in the mid-1990s sold for £62,101.

The description of the suit reads: “Mr Blobby – an original BBC costume from the mid 1990’s.

“This was done by the BBC’s costumers for a foreign version of Noel’s House Party.

“Unfortunately, the overseas show was canceled before delivery and neither the broadcaster nor the BBC’s production team wanted it – so it sat in my office until it moved to my home a few years ago.

“This costume is made of foam rubber covered in a rubber-like material with a shoulder brace.

“As a consequence, as it is now over 25 years old, there is inevitable aging of the foam and rubberized coating.

“That means it’s less suitable for carrying as the device isn’t as supple as it was in 1996.

“Also, the two arms need to be reattached to the body, one of the plastic grommets has snapped and the bow tie needs to be secured.

“Overall it’s not bad for its age – but there are visible creases and dust on the cover and some areas will require a dab of glue to fix.

“This is an iconic TV character from one of the most popular TV shows of the 1990s.

“He’s been with me all along – but now moving means I have to find him a new home.”
