A cheerful looking Queen makes her second public appearance in just two days as she continues her stay in Scotland.

This morning she took part in the Armed Forces Loyalty Parade at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to mark her North of the Border platinum anniversary.

The monarch, dressed in a purple outfit with a matching hat, waved to the crowd as she stood with the help of her walking stick.

The parade also included a handing over of keys to the Queen of the Edinburgh Castle in the palace gardens.

All three armed forces – Army, Navy and Air Force – were represented, and when Her Majesty arrived in the gardens, a royal salute took place.

Lord Lyon, King of Arms, then introduced the Queen to three senior officials from the services.

They were joined by three cadets, representing each service, who carried the key to Edinburgh Castle through the gardens before presenting it to Major General Alastair Bruce von Crionaich, the Governor of Edinburgh Castle. The Major General will then address the Queen.

The act of loyalty and handing over of the key to Edinburgh Castle will mark the 200th anniversary of King George IV’s visit to Scotland in 1822.

The Queen’s appearance today came after she traveled to Scotland with fellow royals yesterday for her annual engagement week.

The 96-year-old monarch attended the historic key ceremony – the traditional kick-off to Holyrood week for the royals – accompanied by her youngest son Prince Edward and his wife Sophie Wessex.

Dressed in a powder blue silk wool coat and dress by Stewart Parvin, paired with a Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat, the Queen stood with her walking stick as she was symbolically presented with the Keys of the City by Edinburgh’s Lord Provost Robert Aldridge.

It was the first public function she has performed since appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the finale of her platinum anniversary celebration just over three weeks ago.

She attended the private portions of Garter Day in Windsor just two weeks ago and did not perform at Royal Ascot.

Last week it was reported that the monarch, who is suffering from ongoing mobility issues, plans to reside at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh for the whole week.

However, it is believed she will now see how she is feeling each day before deciding whether to stay at the Palace of Holyroodhouse for the whole week and take on more duties as usual.
