Beatles passerby to sell band memorabilia at auction

A collection of Beatles memorabilia belonging to a former passerby and band assistant will go up for sale later this month.
The stamps collected by Kevin Harrington during his time with the Fab Four are expected to fetch a total of £10,000 when they go on sale at Omega Auctions in Newton-le-Willows on March 29.
Among the many were a postcard by Sir Ringo Starr, rare t-shirt designs featuring John Lennon, photographs and a silver bracelet presented to Harrington upon his departure from the episode’s Apple Records company. group.

It also features autographed vinyl records of all the band members as well as a large collection of original versions of their hit songs and albums.
Another unique addition to the lot are four Eero Saarinen tulip chairs from Lennon’s Kenwood home in Surrey.
Also up for sale will be items from Harrington’s subsequent career as a pavilion for musicians and bands including Eric Clapton, Motorhead and Wishbone Ash.
Harrington said he spent several years with The Beatles in a “flexible capacity”.
He also featured in the 2021 Beatles documentary Get Back as the man who lifted the lyrics for Lennon to read during the band’s famous rooftop concert.

Describing his time with the band, Harrington said: “First of all, you’re in charge of setting up the equipment.
“Then it’s really a question of whatever the boys want. If I can get it, I’ll take it. Otherwise, Mal (Evans, personal assistant to the Beatles) will get the ”.
Dan Hampson, auction director at Omega Auctions, said: “It is incredibly exciting to be able to offer items from someone who has actually been there in the final stages of the grouping.
“Kevin is a man with so many stories to tell and this collection is just a snapshot of what he’s been through during that time. We can’t wait to see what they get in the auction.”
