Belarusian minister reveals secret UNGA meetings that could ‘destroy’ US

Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei announced Monday that he had attended several secret meetings during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to discuss information that could “destroy” the United States if leaked, they say in a report.

Makei added that the secret meetings were attended by ten foreign American and European diplomats who asked for the talks to be kept confidential, Belarusian state news agency BelTA reported. While refusing to divulge any further information about the meetings, Makei teased that the contents of the meetings could harm the US if made public.

“Belarus has probably reached such a potential that the information about the meeting … could destroy even a superpower like the United States,” he told BelTA.

However, the Belarusian minister said that the main result of the meetings is the opportunity to continue the dialogue on “future prospects”.

“I don’t have rosy hopes that everything will change immediately, but it is important to understand that a number of colleagues understand the absurdity of the current situation and the need to get out of it. I am convinced that these meetings will ultimately bear fruit.” ” he added.

Makei’s revelation about the UNGA’s secret meetings came as Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko flew to Moscow to attend an unscheduled meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Details of the meeting have not yet been released.

Belarus is a close ally of Russia. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Putin has used Belarusian territory to stage attacks on Ukraine. In the first months of the war, dead and injured Russian soldiers were also brought to Belarusian territory, where a Russian field hospital had been set up.

Belarus has also adopted Russia’s stance on the war, blaming NATO and “the West’s drive to expand eastward” as the cause of the conflict in Ukraine.

“[Their quest to expand eastward] overlooking the legitimate security interests of Russia and Belarus. Therefore,” the minister claimed, “the collective West should bear full responsibility for the ongoing bloodshed in Ukraine.”

Makei said Belarus can help negotiate a ceasefire and peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, adding that they see no “alternative to talks.”
