PARKING can add unexpected costs and added stress to travel, but certain airports can save you a penny.
Belfast has the UK’s cheapest airport car park and a comparison of different ticket prices on the UK’s 20 busiest runways has revealed the rest of the list.
Most of the UK’s busiest airports, such as London Heathrow, Birmingham and Manchester, don’t make the top 10 – so travelers should be warned that expensive parking could add to the Easter chaos huge queues.
At just £65 for a week’s stay, Belfast is far cheaper than the most expensive London City, which charges £60 for just a day.
Belfast is also the cheapest for an hour, costing just a fiver, while London Stansted charges the most for the same length of time – £18.
Even visitors passing by an airport can find themselves out of pocket as every airport but two requires a 15 minute drop. A vacationer was even caught for wrong-way driving Heathrow car park.
Charlotte Balfe has been fined £80 after accidentally driving through the airport drop-off zone.
The mum of two paid £90 upfront to leave her car for a week but was met by a barrage of signs and junctions on arrival. Charlotte, from Woking, Surrey, accidentally pulled into a zone where drivers charge to drop off passengers.
Drivers can be charged up to £10 for 15 minutes in London Gatwick and London Luton, while only Doncaster Sheffield and Newcastle International, both in the top 10 cheapest, offer free return.
Although Belfast came out as the cheapest airport car park, it disappointed with its quantity Electric vehicle chargers available. In addition to Doncaster Sheffield, London Stansted and London Southend, the airport has no charging points. London Heathrow, on the other hand, has a whopping 38.
It is cheaper to book in advance at all 20 airports. Alternatively, many airports are accessible by public transport.
Another option is to park further away from the airport terminals, as parking in less convenient locations is usually cheaper. However, travelers should be warned about the driver who fell for you “illegitimate” airport parking lot.
The Ryanair customer paid to park his car at the company before a holiday. John Paton from Tyneside bought his place at Newcastle Airport in the days before he was due to fly to Malaga with his wife Sheila.
But when the couple arrived bright and early, Looking4Parking staff didn’t respond with their advertised “meet and greet service” – instead having no record of the booking.
John was then forced to pay a further £66.99 for parking even though he had already paid. Chronicle Live reported.
