Ben Fogle has shared his heartbreak after his beloved family pets were killed after being taken away by a fox.

The TV adventurer, 48, shared an emotional message on Instagram confirming his guinea pigs Q and Patch were killed by a fox digging in their cage.

His wife Marina said there were “many tears shed” as Ben Fogle told his 468,000 followers that “they are part of our happy family.”

The New Lives in the Wild presenter said: “We lost our little Guinea Pig friends Q and Patch. They were caught by a fox that dug into their cage.

“I was surprised because I felt sad. They are not just rodents. They are our friends, part of our happy family.

“It’s amazing how we can build relationships with the people we care for, no matter how big or small, feathers or scales. They have brought us so much happiness, joy and fame. laugh.

“They’ve taught our kids so much about responsibility, love and now pain, but most of all, they remind us that the pain of loss no matter how hard it is, it’s worth it. Like the great Dr. Seuss Dai said, ‘don’t cry because it’s over, laugh because it’s all over’.

“Thank you for the sweetness you have brought into our lives, I will miss your singing in the morning. Little Cuy’s gentle breeze, I hope there’s plenty of fresh spinach up there.”

Ben and Marina have two children together – Ludo, 12, and Iona, 11.

Marina added: “Our beloved Q and Patch are in guinea pig’s paradise. Today was a very sad day, with many tears shed and sobs echoing from their home. I.

“But it was also a day of love, with hugs and understanding from our friends, an appreciation that even though they were little rodents, our sadness was real and valid.”

Commenting on the post, host Matt Baker said: ” I always say the reason we love our pets so much is because the only time they break our hearts is when they leave us. “
