he 56-year-old American actor and producer, best known for his roles in films such as Zoolander and the Meet the Parents trilogy, visited the country in June as part of his long-standing role as a goodwill ambassador for UNHCR, the UN refugee agency .
Just over a month after his return, Stiller expressed his awe at meeting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukrainian citizens, telling Deadline: “I was really impressed by the resilience of the people of Ukraine and the President.
“His incredible grasp of how he rose for the moment and offered his people leadership and true determination to get through this horrific situation.”

Before his visit to Ukraine, Stiller also visited the south-eastern Polish city of Rzeszow near the Ukrainian border.
He began working with UNHCR in 2016 and has traveled with UNHCR to meet refugees in Germany, Jordan, Guatemala and Lebanon.
Speaking of the “overwhelming” experience of seeing the consequences of the war for the Ukrainian people, Stiller said: “Within the country alone there are seven or eight million people who have been displaced.
“It’s just so overwhelming when you see the reality.”
He added: “If you go there, you see that it’s not just the physical effects of war and destruction.

“It’s also the trauma and psychological impact of what happens when you’re forced to fight for your life in a situation that’s unrelated to you.”
Stiller also explained what he learned from the experience, citing the courageous attitude of the Ukrainians he encountered: “They said, ‘For us, we have no choice. This is our land and they’re trying to wipe us out.”
“You think about what you would do in that situation.
“Showing solidarity with these people is so important.”
