BFI to promote TV and film education in schools and launch new streaming service

The British Film Institute (BFI) has announced plans to promote film and TV education in schools and launch a new streaming service BFI+ while also revealing a 10-year strategy and 3-year funding plan.

The institute also outlined a plan to invest the money it receives from the national lottery over the next three years, starting in April 2023.

The funding scheme will run from 2023 to 2026 and the institution invests £136m – or around £45m annually.

From these funds, £54 million has been allocated so filmmakers can create original work on screen and support talent development through the BFI Network.

Around £34.2 million will also be invested in education and skills, including a grant program to educate teachers on the use of film and motion pictures in the classroom, as well as a program careers and advancements to help children and young people enter the industry.

BFI CEO Ben Roberts outlined six ambitions in the Screen Culture strategy.
