Biden visits Poland this week

Poland borders Ukraine and has been inundated with refugees since Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces invaded Ukraine last month.

Biden will travel to Europe on Wednesday and then meet with members of NATO and the European Union in Brussels, Belgium. A visit to Ukraine itself is not planned.

“The trip will focus on continuing to rally the world in support of the Ukrainian people and against President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” Psaki tweeted earlier Sunday.

Poland was conquered by Germany and the former Soviet Union in 1939. After World War II, the victorious Soviets dominated Poland until the end of the Cold War in 1989. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Poland joined NATO in 1999. Biden visits Poland this week
