Big change in Netflix rules for hitting users — and it could cost you more

THE days of Netflix password sharing may soon be over.
Bosses are fed up with the widely used practice after revealing a catastrophic drop in subscriber numbers.
It follows price increases in some parts of the world earlier this year.
Those hoping to save a bit of money by sharing their password with other households might find their bill climbs even higher.
People who are caught will be asked to pay around £2/$2.70 to add additional members not living with them.
The Stranger Things and Crown hitmaker believes more than 100 million accounts are breaking its rules by sharing passwords.

Boss Reed Hastings previously turned a blind eye, saying it’s “something you have to learn to live with”.
But he has now admitted the tactic makes it difficult to attract new subscribers in some countries.
“When we were growing fast, it wasn’t a high priority to work on it [account sharing]’ he told shareholders.
“And now we’re working super hard on it.”
Hastings announced that there is a new payment plan tested in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru could be rolled out to other countries.
There, people are told that they have to pay about $2 to $3 (£1.53 to £2.30) extra for two additional profiles.
But it’s not clear how the new rule would be enforced.
It comes like This is what Netflix announced on Tuesday that it lost 200,000 subscribers — the first drop the popular service has seen in a decade.
The company’s withdrawal from Russia over the invasion of Ukraine was partially blamed.
“Our revenue growth has slowed significantly,” Netflix said.
“Our relatively high household penetration – judging by the large number of households with accounts – combined with competition creates headwinds for revenue growth.”
