But a duo proved prejudices wrong by becoming best friends.

Belle, a Newfoundland native, and her feline friend Bears form an unbreakable friendship in their Denver home.

The three-year-old has become the Bears’ official “spiritual support dog” – and even accompanies her on trips to the vet.

Owner Emily has shared an adorable video of her pets on Instagram showing Belle reassuring the Bear through her injections.

The video, which has garnered nearly 185,000 likes, reads: “On the way to take Mr Bears to the vet to take some shots. He was really nervous so we took Belle with us.

“His doctors even asked her to come to the appointment because he would do so much better with his big sister with him.

“She’s not just his sister. She’s his emotional support dog.”

Emily first noticed the pet’s adorable attachment when Belle was just eight weeks old, saying her cat did her “so much in an instant”.

She said: “She was always very gentle and he was always brave and curious.

“Fortunately, it is an outdoor cat so most of their initial interactions took place in our yard, which gave the Bears an escape plan if it got too rough.”

Though delighted by their friendship, Emily never expected Belle and the Bears to turn out to be this nice, especially considering the stereotypes about cats living with dogs.

Emily added: ‘Bears aren’t always good with dogs so we were worried at first but they immediately fell in love – like they understood they were siblings.

The duo share an Instagram page called bear and beltwhere their owners update their 10,600 followers on their daily life.

Commenting on the video, one user said: “Love you guys, support for the Bears! Thanks for the love.”

Another user said: “This gives me hope that our cat Flash will get along with us to come to Newfie soon.”

A third said: “I need you to make it into a series.”

While other users asked Emily how she was able to build such a healthy relationship between her pets.

One user said: “Wow! I need tips on how you make them so good. My two pretending alike don’t exist.”

Another added: “It’s really amazing and amazing what dogs do to help cats.”
