Did you know that your photos contain hidden data?
A treasure trove of information can be found hidden behind the scenes.
Things like the time and date the photo was taken are usually listed, as is the device used — and even random details, like the name of the photo. B. whether you had turned on a flash.
But most worryingly, it shows the location where the photo was taken.
This could mean disclosing where you live when you take a picture at home.
This information is stored in the so-called EXIF data, which stands for exchangeable image file.
It’s a kind of format standard that marks images with important details.
There are EXIF viewer sites that make all these details visible to everyone.
TikToker kadama raised awareness of the issue and warned people not to send photos before cleaning their iPhone photos of the hidden data.
“This shows me the exact location where the picture was taken and a bunch of my other private information,” he said, demonstrating how easy it is to see.
Fortunately, there are many apps that will read the EXIF data for you.
