Biggest EuroMillions jackpot ever up for grabs as prize money hits a record-breaking €230 million

Friday’s EuroMillions jackpot is heading for a record-breaking €230 million, the biggest prize pool in the game’s history.

A single EuroMillions jackpot winner in Ireland or any of the other eight participating European countries officially becomes Europe’s biggest lottery winner of all time.

As per EuroMillions rules, the jackpot is capped at €230 million and after that amount is reached, any excess that would normally be allocated to the jackpot goes into the next prize tier, meaning more winners.

“Friday night’s EuroMillions draw really is a record. The mega jackpot on offer is fast approaching the €230 million jackpot cap and if the jackpot hits the cap on Friday, there could be more winners than usual in the next prize tier,” said a National Lottery spokesman.

“The countdown is on for Friday’s record-breaking draw of an estimated €230 million and we urge players to book their tickets early either in-store or via the National Lottery app before Friday night’s 7:30pm ticket sales deadline to buy.”

It’s already been a record year for EuroMillions prize wins in Ireland. In 2022, the EuroMillions game has already spawned four new lottery millionaires, including a €30.9 million prize won by a Co Clare syndicate last February.

Another 12 players across the country have also won the EuroMillions Plus top prize of €500,000.

A North Co Dublin family syndicate currently holds the record for winning the highest EuroMillions jackpot in Ireland, having won €175.4 million in February 2019.

So far this year there have been 16 Euromillions top prizes across Ireland, ranging from €500,000 to a €31m win in Tipperary.

The operator of the separate Irish Lotto was criticized last year for seven months without winning the €19m jackpot and for adding too many balls to the game.

After the lottery operator said if the jackpot was not won on January 15 the prize money would go to the next batch of prize winners, the jackpot eventually fell and was sold at Laura’s XL store in Castlebar.
