Book lovers have missed out on their dream property after a home, said to be ‘the largest’ on the market in the UK, complete with a massive library on sale for just under £6m

An impressive mansion with a library of 22,000 books, an indoor swimming pool and tennis court has sold for almost £6 million.

Said to be once ‘the UK’s largest home on the market’, The Chanters House in Devon has now found a lucky new owner.

This 14th-century estate has been sold with Pilkington Estates for £5,950,000.

Nestled in the quaint town of Ottery St Mary, the three-story home has plenty of history in its halls, with hardwood floors in the large reception room and an antique fireplace leading to the main reception rooms.

In fact, the house’s Cromwell Fairfax Room is even said to be the exact site of the Civil War in the 17th century.

However, the mattress has been renovated by the current owners over the past decade, adding a modern touch to the period property.

The pièce de résistance must, of course, be the library, the largest of its kind in west Salisbury. It’s a beautiful space to relax, unwind and read a good book.

However, there are plenty of other large spaces inside, including the master suite, aka the ‘Reynell’ bedroom, which has his and hers ensuite bathrooms and a spacious dressing room. And nothing beats a freestanding tub!

On the first floor, there are four deluxe double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.

And if that’s not enough, upstairs there are six more bedrooms – also with suites – all of which have been refurbished and carefully dressed.

But if you’re not one to read and relax, the huge home also boasts plenty of opportunities to get active – including an indoor pool with panoramic windows overlooking the garden, tennis courts and land The park runs down to the river, providing plenty of opportunities for forest walks.

This property news comes after we’ve recently heard all about a woman buying a home that is almost the complete opposite of The Chanters House.

Social media influencer Elise Buch, 28, shared on her YouTube channel how she bought a small wooden house, similar to a barn.

Elise explained that despite running her own business and being very frugal, she couldn’t buy her own home because she was priced out of the market.

Now, she’s shared a new video with 239k subscribers showing her new home – a garden set in a subdivision.

Despite the size of the place, Elise was delighted to finally be able to order something of her own.

In the video, Elise says: “I made it. I bought a small house and a garden.

“I’m excited to share this with you and I’m excited to get to work digging the flower beds, painting and decorating.

“I still can’t believe this is real and yesterday I received the key to my place.”

Inside, Elise has a sofa and two armchairs, in addition to a wood-burning stove to add to the cozy atmosphere.

She continued: “There is a tiny kitchen here, it doesn’t have water anywhere.

“I have an oven, which is pretty basic.

“Then if you go further here, maybe install a bathroom and a toilet.

“It’s basically my little house.”
