Bill Gates’ intimacy with ‘vile’ Epstein destroyed our marriage, says Melinda

Bill Gatess Familiarity with “wicked and abominable” Jeffrey Epstein was a factor in Melinda French Gates’ decision to divorce the Microsoft founder, she announced yesterday.

For the first time publicly since the couple announced their split in May last year, Ms French Gates, 57, said she had “made it very clear” how uncomfortable she felt about her then-husband’s interactions with the convicted pedophile, but that said, the warning seemed to fall on deaf ears.

“It wasn’t one thing, it was many things. I didn’t like that he dated Jeffrey Epstein,” she said when asked why they broke up.

Ms French Gates tells CBS morning She went to Epstein because she “wanted to see who this man was.”

“I regretted it from the second I walked in the door,” she said. “He was despicable. He was evil personified. I had nightmares about it afterwards.”

It is not known when the meeting took place. Ms French Gates added: “My heart breaks for these young women because of how I felt. Here I am an older woman. God I feel terrible for these young women. It’s terrible.”

Mr Gates, 66, began a relationship with Epstein after the financier was convicted of sex crimes, and the couple have met numerous times, including at Epstein’s New York townhouse.

On one occasion, Mr Gates stayed late and the couple were joined by a former Miss Sweden, according to a New York Times Report.

Mr. Gates wrote in an email to colleagues after they first met in 2011: “His lifestyle is very different and somehow intriguing, although it wouldn’t work for me.”

The couple met several times in New York, were spotted talking at a TED conference in California, and Mr Gates unknowingly flew on Epstein’s jet to Palm Beach, Florida, according to his spokesman.

He is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Ms French Gates said: “I didn’t like that he had meetings with Jeffrey Epstein. I made it very clear how I feel about him.”

When asked if he was listening to her concerns, Ms French Gates said: “Any of the remaining questions about Bill’s relationship there — that’s for Bill to answer. But I made it very clear how I feel about him.”

Mr Gates told CNN last summer: “I’ve had several dinners with him in the hope that what he has said about receiving billions in philanthropy for global health through his contacts might come out. When it seemed like this wasn’t real, that relationship ended. Spending time with him to give him credibility was a big mistake. I made a mistake.”

The couple’s $140 billion divorce comes after 27 years of marriage, which says it was “broken up beyond repair.”

Shortly thereafter, it emerged that Microsoft was investigating a complaint alleging that Mr. Gates “attempted to enter into an intimate relationship” with a female employee in 2000. The investigation ended after Mr Gates left the board, but Microsoft said the two were unrelated. Mr Gates’ spokesman said at the time: “Nearly 20 years ago there was an affair that ended amicably. Bill’s decision to step down from the board was unrelated.”

In her interview, Ms French Gates also dodged a question about whether her husband had multiple affairs, saying, “I think those are questions Bill needs to answer.”

Mr. Gates has not responded to allegations on multiple matters.

Describing their current relationship, she said, “We definitely have a working relationship. I would say we have a friendly relationship at this point.” (© Telegraph Media Group Ltd. 2022)
