Albion boss Graham Potter has been impressed with new signing Billy Gilmour in training – and he could feature in the squad for the Leicester game.
The 21-year-old was man of the match at last summer’s EURO between Scotland and England and made 24 appearances for relegated Norwich last season.
Potter said: “There’s absolutely a possibility he’s in the squad. He trained well today, he didn’t have a lot of football in terms of competitive matches, but he trained a lot.
“It’s just how he feels and fits into the group, but he will be available.
“As a footballer, he is technically very adept, can take the ball and handle it well. He benefits from the structure and the well-functioning team.
“That’s our job, we have to find the right role for him and find the role for the other guys to compliment him. If we can do that, he will have a really successful time here.”
Asked if this move was a “clean slate” after being relegated last season, Potter stressed the importance of a variety of experiences in a player’s development.
He said: “You just go through life, you gain experiences. Some are positive, some are not. That’s the football experience, you use the experience for your own development.
“His character is really strong, his personality is really impressive, so he learns from every experience he has.
“We will help him on the next leg of his journey.
“We’re excited, I think it’s an exciting signing for us. Billy is a very capable footballer, great character, great personality.
“I think he will fit into the group and we look forward to working with him. It adds a bit of competition in that area.”
Albion hosts bottom-placed Leicester City at 2 p.m. this Sunday.
