The director of the hit superhero movie Black Panther was mistaken for a bank robber and arrested when he tried to get money from his own account in the US.
yan Coogler was briefly detained by police after attempting to withdraw $12,000 from an Atlanta bank in January, a police report revealed.
Coogler is filming the sequel to Black Panther Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in the city.
The director, wearing a hat, sunglasses and a Covid mask gave the cashier a note that read: “I want to withdraw $12,000 in cash from my checking account. Let’s count the money somewhere else. I wanted to be discreet,” according to the report.
According to reports, the transaction triggered an alarm, and the banker, assuming it was a targeted robbery, called the police.
Coogler and two others with him were arrested, and later released.
“This situation should never have happened… However, Bank of America worked with me and worked it out to my satisfaction and we moved on,” he told Variety.
The New York Times reported that he told police he was paying a medical assistant to work for his family and sought discretion over safety concerns due to the cash he was receiving. I request.
