The Williamstown school was simply electrifying in the first 15 minutes, scoring as many points from a converted try from winger Charlie Molony, a second from Luke Ktitzinger and a penalty from Zach Quirke.
Things were already looking hopeless for Newbridge, although a breakout from Mark Masterson and a deft kick from out-half Tom Bohan had stretched Blackrock.
However, it took some time for Newbridge’s lineup to click, squashing her plan to test Rock with a series of runners and kicks from out-half Tom Bohan.
Even when “Rock lost Paddy McCarthy and Inigo Cruise-O’Brien to the trash can to give the losers a two-man advantage,” there was no jolt on the scoreboard.
When they were healthy again, Blackrock flanker Cruise-O’Brien piled high for Quirke’s conversion to make it 22-0 at the break
Unfortunately, Newbridge shot himself in the foot when Tom Brigg fell on a knock-on from behind the line. Quirke converted.
The physicality of Rock’s defense drove their opponents behind until Todd Lawlor found a nice line for a try in the 45th minute through quick thinking from Brophy.
Blackrock slammed the door from Conor Tonge’s leap onto the line to add seven more points and Cruise-O’Brien shot left with stunning skill to confirm their dominance.
They even had the luxury of finishing the game without dropping a point when captain Gus McCarthy lost to a yellow card late on.
