Firefighters tackle a massive blaze at an industrial area in Blaenavon, between Pontypool and Abergavenny in South Wales, and people are being told to avoid the area
A huge fire has erupted in an industrial area in south Wales, with people being told to stay away while fire brigades deal with the incident.
Massive flames and billows of smoke illuminate Blaenavon between Pontypool and Abergavenny where the fire has engulfed the Gilchrist Thomas Industrial Estate.
Just before midnight Gwent Police said officers were dealing with a major fire in the industrial estate which is known to contain a multitude of commercial properties and industrial units.
It urged people to stay away from the area, while firefighters have warned residents to keep their windows and doors closed, she reported Wales Online.
According to unconfirmed reports, the fire is sweeping through a caravan repair center on the property.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown
Gwent Police said in a tweet: “Officers are dealing with a large fire at the Gilchrist Thomas business park in Blaenavon. Please avoid the area.”
The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service also advised residents to keep windows and doors closed.
It tweeted: “We are currently dealing with an incident in Blaenavon. Please avoid the area to keep access for emergency services free. We also advise residents to keep windows and doors closed because of the smoke.”
It prompted hundreds of people in the area to take to social media, with many believing it was a trailer store and hoping there were no injuries.
One person wrote: “Fire trucks still drive by now.”
Another said: “Hope no one gets hurt.”
While one Facebook user explained, “I just hope no one gets hurt, especially all the emergency services who are risking their own lives on their job.”
