Blinken’s Covid-19 case follows a weekend of large gatherings in Washington, many linked to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner he attended. Blinken has also kept to a busy travel schedule in recent weeks.
But Blinken is “fully vaccinated and refreshed,” and he had tested negative on Tuesday and as recently as Wednesday morning, Price said.
“The secretary will be self-isolating at home and on a virtual work schedule,” Price said. “He looks forward to returning to the department and resuming his full duties and travel as soon as possible.”
Several senior officials in the Biden administration have tested positive for the virus, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
