The heartbroken mother was wearing a bloody white beanie and clutching her turtleneck sweater to her mouth as she waited outside the car, a girl’s pink scarf in one hand.

Another child, Polina A 4th grader, from Kyiv, was traveling in a car with her family and siblings when they were attacked by a group of Russian reconnaissance and saboteurs.

The girl is in her final year of primary school but is now counted among at least 14 children believed to have been killed since Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday.

Kyiv deputy mayor Volodymyr Bondarenko said in a Facebook post that Polina’s brother is being treated at the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital.

He added that her sister was in intensive care at the second hospital.

He said: “Her name is Polina. She studied in grade 4 at a school in Kyiv.

“This morning on Teligi, she and her parents were shot by the Russian DRG.”

In the same post, he begs people to stay at home unless absolutely necessary.
