BMG has entered into a worldwide publishing agreement with the George Harrison Estate to manage the Harrisongs catalogue.
The catalog includes more than 200 songs written by George Harrison with The Beatles, The Traveling Wilburys and for the artist’s solo career. The catalog was previously managed by Concord.
The BMG deal expands the company’s relationship with Harrison’s music company Dark Horse Records, with BMG acting as a global recording, music publishing and merchandising partner while expanding into additional business areas.
Harrisongs Limited, the music publishing company Harrison founded, features his nearly two dozen songs he has written with the Beatles, including the band’s most popular song on streaming services, Here comes the Sunas well as me mine, While my guitar gently criesand the US no. 1-Single Something.
The catalog also includes Harrison’s 12 studio albums of solo works, including songs from the acclaimed triple album All things must pass (With My dear Mr, what is life, Isn’t it a pity, All things must pass) and life in the material world (with give me love (give me peace on earth)) as well as his songs from the two albums recorded by the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys end of line, Handle with care she’s my baby and from the inside to the outsideamong many others.
In 2020, BMG announced a multi-faceted global partnership with Dark Horse Records, founded in 1974 by George Harrison as a place for his solo work and home to support other artists, and now run by Dhani Harrison and David Zonshine.
The deal initially brought catalog releases from acclaimed record label and Harrison’s Indian label imprint HariSongs, as well as Joe Strummer’s solo works, including The Mescaleros.
Recent releases from Dark Horse Records include the latest recordings from Billy Idol, The Roadside and Happy Holidays, with upcoming releases including Idol’s forthcoming new EP and highly anticipated new studio album from Benmont Tench.
Most recently, in 2022, Dark Horse Records inked a new global recording agreement for 16 albums from Leon Russell’s recording catalog from 1984 to 2013 and a global publishing management deal for Joe Strummer’s solo publishing catalog of hundreds of songs, including all three Mescaleros albums. his scoring contributions, as well as the sixth and final Clash album Cut The Crap.
Additionally, the partnership with BMG has expanded to include DH Merchandise, a one-stop shop offering creative design through fulfillment, including the opening of new merchandise stores for George Harrison, Joe Strummer, Johnny Ramone and additional partnerships with Traveling Wilburys and Buddy holly; and the launch of the wellness music series Dark Horse Sounds.
BMG also serves as Harrison’s son Dhani’s music publishing and record label, releasing his recent and acclaimed studio album IN///PARALLEL. Additionally, BMG’s long association with Harrison’s work includes the release in 2016 of George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison, the live concert tribute album featuring an all-star cast that showcases Harrison’s career-spanning music performs.
