BMW’s new M2 is set to pack a big punch when it launches next year

BMW has just released details of its new high-performance M2 sports car.

The two-door is powered by a 6-cylinder in-line petrol engine and is of course rear-wheel drive.

The 8-speed M-Steptronic gearbox is standard, but there’s a 6-speed manual as an option.

It all boils down to an output of 460 hp and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds. The figure of 460 hp is a staggering 90 hp more than the previous model.

Maximum torque is a respectable 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) and maximum revs at 7,200 rpm – that should take some experience.

Prices start at €112,350 and global launch will begin next April.

It is built together with the BMW 2 Series Coupé in the Mexican plant in San Luis Potosi.

The car is longer, wider, and the track width has also grown, but it is lower than the previous model.

Distinctive visual elements are the kidney grille with horizontal struts and a striking spoiler lip on the rear apron. BMW’s new M2 is set to pack a big punch when it launches next year
