Bobby Brazier says his mum Jade Goody would be ‘proud’ of his EastEnders role

Bobby Brazier has said that his late mother Jade Goody would be “proud” of him joining the cast of EastEnders for his acting debut.

The 19-year-old has taken on the role of Freddie Slater, son of Maureen “Little Mo” Slater, with the first scenes in the BBC soap opera airing on Tuesday nights.

Brazier admits he was feeling nervous about his new project but the cast made him feel “very comfortable right away”.

Speaking from EastEnders to Good Morning Britain for his first ever TV interview, he said he knew his mother would support him to find his footing in the acting world.

“She would be proud. Why not her? Whoever loves and cares about me, all my friends and family, they’re proud and supportive, so I’m sure – I know – she will be too,” he said.

Big Brother star Goody, who died in 2009 aged 27 after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, has Bobby and brother Freddy, 17, with reality TV star Jeff Brazier.

She is a huge fan of EastEnders and in 2006 reportedly asked two of their stars to talk to their bosses about securing her a role in a meetup. by chance at V Festival.

Asked if his father had given him any advice, Brazier said he didn’t, and laughed as he added: “But he’s happy that I’m working steady and earning and paying rent home.”

His character Freddie was last seen in Walford in May 2006 when he and his mother left to start a new life.

Now he’s back at Albert Square, aged 18, and finds himself on a path that could lead to heartbreak.

Discussing how he feels about the new role, he said: “This is completely different from anything I’ve done before. I have never acted before.

“I fell into the abyss a little bit but I would say I am swimming.

The actor added, “There were a lot of worries, but everyone made me feel comfortable from the very first scene.”

Brazier also admits that despite Slater’s reputation, he feels the family is “not too different” from what he knows.

“Feels like home. I feel like a Slater,” he added.
