Bognor theater and hotel plans are under review by the council

A CITY could embark on major regeneration work as part of a multi-million pound project.

A 102-room hotel and an extension to the Alexandra Theater will be built in Bognor if plans are approved by Arun District Council on September 14.

The Premier Inn Hotel is planned for the south east corner of the Regis Center car park where the Alexandra Theater is located.

Construction on the £15.2million project could start as early as spring next year.

Hazel Latus, Chair of Arun Arts Company, said: “This is an exciting time for us as we move one step closer to our plans for a world-class, modern, multi-purpose cultural space.

“The new theater and workspaces will offer larger, brighter, more accessible and much more energy efficient facilities.”

But rising inflation has already pushed up the cost of the project.

City Council recently received £19.4m from the Leveling Up Fund and £12.2m of that will be used for the extension and refurbishment of the theatre.

Members of the Political and Financial Affairs Committee supported the recommendation that the Council should contribute a further £3m. Bognor theater and hotel plans are under review by the council
