Borderlands and liquor partners for an official Mad Moxxi Ballantine’s Whiskey

The worlds of border areas and boozing will collide in an unexpected new connection between the Borderlands series and Ballantine’s Whiskey.

As part of the merger, Borderlands-owner Gearbox is partnering with alcohol maker Pernod Richard in what the two companies describe as a “long-term partnership” that will see the two brands intertwined.

The partnership was unveiled with a new video starring Moxxi from the Borderlands series – and, of course, Claptrap. It also acts as a responsible drinking PSA, which is a nice touch.

One element of the partnership sees Borderlands character Mad Moxxi, who owns Bar, assume the role of “Chief Galactic Expansion Officer” in the company. Another one that’s actually more significant will be the release of a limited edition Ballentine’s Whiskey known as “Moxxi’s Bar Edition” that comes in an appropriately purple bottle adorned with all the Borderlands iconography you’d expect would.

The bottles are not just a limited edition promotional item for influencers, they are actually a real product that will eventually come to market. Players who pick up a bottle will not only receive some Ballentines Blended Scotch, but also some sort of content unlock for Borderlands 3. More information will be released soon via Moxxi’s new Twitter account at a given time.

This latest partnership appears to be just another part of the ongoing expansion of the Borderlands franchise. There’s a movie on the way – which will have a different plot than the games – and the spin-off, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, which released just last month.
