Boris Johnson DID ordered the controversial airlift of an animal rescue organization in Afghanistan and officials “must have” lied about it, a whistleblower claimed today.

Bombshell statements were released by a second State Department official who claimed it was common knowledge that the order for Nowzad officials came from the prime minister.

Josie Stewart, head of illicit finance at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), said she spoke out after being “put into an impossible situation where my conscience could not tolerate what the FCDO of asked me”.

It comes after emails released in January said the prime minister personally “authorized” an evacuation operation to take pen farthing, cats and dogs and workers at the Nowzad charity out of Afghanistan last summer while the Taliban overran the country.

The Prime Minister vehemently denied the story at the time, saying: “No, the whole thing is total rhubarb.”

But Ms Stewart said: “It was widespread ‘knowledge’ in the FCDO Crisis Center that the decision on Nowzad’s Afghan staff came from the Prime Minister.

“I saw relevant messages in Microsoft Teams, I heard that it was discussed in the crisis center, including by senior officials.

“And I was copied in numerous emails which clearly suggested this and which nobody, including Nigel Casey, who acted as ‘Crisis Gold’, questioned.”

Ms Stewart, who has volunteered to assist in the response in Afghanistan, wrote: “My actions will likely result in my dismissal from FCDO. i loved my job I loved working with my regular team and department and am devastated to be leaving.”

She highlighted the evidence from two officials – FCDO Secretary of State Philip Barton and FCDO Afghanistan Director Nigel Casey – who are due to present further evidence this afternoon.

She wrote: “I don’t see why either Philip Barton or Nigel Casey intentionally lied to the committee, but I believe they must have…

“I’ve tried to imagine that, but can’t imagine that could have been an honest mistake.”

This breaking news will be updated.
