Boris Johnson makes his final speech as Prime Minister and says Britain will emerge stronger from the downturn

Boris Johnson said on Tuesday Britain would emerge stronger from the economic downturn as he left Downing Street to hand in his resignation as Prime Minister. “This is a difficult time for the economy,” he said.

This is a tough time for families across the country. We can and we will get through it, we will come out stronger on the other side.”

He said his successor Liz Truss would do whatever it takes to help people cope with soaring energy prices and used his farewell speech to throw his support behind the country’s new prime minister.
“And I know that Liz Truss and this compassionate Conservative Government will do everything they can to get people through this crisis and this country will endure it and we will win,” he said on arriving at the door of his Downing Street number 10 stood office and living.
Mr Johnson left his Downing Street office to travel to Scotland to offer his resignation to the Queen.
