The Prime Minister is “not professional enough” for Katharine Birbalsingh.

Katharine Birbalsingh, the government’s social mobility tsarina, said she believes Boris Johnson is not a good role model for children.

The chair of the Social Mobility Commission has told Sky News’ Beth Rigby in interviews that the PM’s private life, among other things, leads her to believe he is “not professional enough for me”.

Birbalsingh, who founded Michaela Community School in Brent and has been branded Britain’s strictest school leader, is a regular speaker at Conservative Party conferences.

She spoke on a range of topics, but said while she didn’t know all the details of the Partygate scandal, she thought, “I would certainly never be able to put him up and say be like him.”

When Rigby asked if she thought the Prime Minister was a good role model, Birbalsingh said: “No, I don’t think so, I wish he could be but he isn’t and that’s a bit sad.

“I like Boris, I don’t think he’s a bad guy you know but I don’t know enough about what he’s up to but I don’t think he’s a good role model for kids.”

When asked why she believed that, she said: “His personal life, for example, makes me raise an eyebrow. I saw a picture of him on the subway the other day and I looked at his hair and I was like, oh my goodness, we expect our kids to have professional looking hair.

“Well, you might think that’s a bit pedantic and that’s a bit silly, but it really isn’t. It’s important to look professional and sometimes Boris looks professional but sometimes he’s not professional enough for me. Say it like that.”

Johnson has been married three times and when asked about family values, Birbalsingh said: “It’s something that makes me stop for a little bit now.

“I’d say I’m relatively liberal on these things to a degree, you know, but he’s pushing the boat a little bit.”

The Prime Minister became the first to be given a firm penalty for breaking the law in June 2020 at a Downing Street birthday celebration he attended for nine minutes.

Birbalsingh added: “I don’t know enough about all the latest Partygate stuff. I just don’t know the details because I’m too busy to follow all this, but it kind of makes you stop. I certainly would never be able to put him up and say be like him. I couldn’t do that.
