He’s always been like that but I think he’ll change.
He has a 15-year-old brother and an eight-year-old sister. Even she seems more mature.
He also did not do well in school.
I expect he will find other kids at a similar stage when he joins a new school in September but he doesn’t seem to have any friends. It broke my heart.
All issues receive a personal response, usually within 24 hours on weekdays.
My family was together for Christmas and even my dad and sister said he seemed immature.
I don’t know if I should take it to the doctor to see if something is going on below the surface.
DEIDRE SAYS: He’s different from his peers and siblings – and as his mother, you know him best.
He may simply be young for his age but sometimes behavior like this can be a symptom of ADHD.
Often, children with autism exhibit similar behavior.
Talk to your GP to get an accurate assessment for him. His school can also help.
If you’d like more information on ADHD to do some research on your own, see adhdfoundation.org.uk, which can provide screening and practical support, and the National Autistic Society (autism.org.uk).
